Reporting to the Senior Manager, Ingredient Research, Global RDQ Research & Nutrition, the Senior Scientist / Scientist - Crop Breeding Program Lead is responsible to help develop and lead a Mondelez cocoa clone breeding program located in Indonesia and to become an integral member of Mondelez Plant & Crop Science Research & Development (R&D) team. This will be an opportunity to manage relationships with several international breeding programs in collaboration with large, multi-disciplinary global Research & Development (R&D) teams to create high-yielding, high-quality cocoa clones for a more sustainable cocoa supply. As cocoa breeding lead, you will have primary responsibilities for the development of new relationships with key in-country breeding groups in core Mondelez sourcing areas. Frequent interaction and collaboration is expected with other Research & Development (R&D) team members. A significant amount of international travel is expected (50% of time). This position will require interaction with international breeding technology, pathology, field trial, and agronomy technology development programs, along with the wider Mondelez Cocoa Sustaincapability organization. The qualified candidate will also manage the design, development, and implementation of external in country breeding research projects. 
Some of the key accountabilities for this function will include (but are not limited to):
   » Direction and management of external cocoa breeding programs
   » Coordinate, place and evaluate clone trials worldwide
   » In country evaluation/direction of the creation and evaluation of breeding populations
   » Utilization of molecular markers to incorporate genes for disease resistance and quality traits
   » Make clone and hybrid advancement decisions
   » Fulfill requirements for clone/hybrid advancement through documentation of performance
   » Utilization of all significant breeding technologies with appropriate allocation of resources directed at the prosperous development of germplasm
   » Develop engagement and collaborative interaction with breeding technology communities across the cocoa industry
   » Travel to key global cocoa sourcing areas for trial and product evaluations
   » Manage appropriate allocation of resources – both current and long range
   » capability to travel broadly world-wide for 50% of time

QualificationsDo you have what Information technology takes?
   » At least 3 years of working practice in plant breeding/genetics program (particularly cocoa)
   » PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics or significant field work is required; M.A degree with strong exposure or hands-on practice
   » Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and collaboration with others
   » Excellent managerial and organizational expertise
   » capability to work in a team-located environment with effective verbal communication expertise
   » leadership abilities capabilities within the technology community that can extend into other functional areas
   » expertise of quantitative genetics, functional genomics, genetic statistical theory, field plot technique, experimental design, molecular design and marker application to plant breeding
   » Cocoa crop specific research practice is a plus
